By Okarche FFA Reporter: Cody Asche
Okarche FFA members attended a Leadership Conference during December. Cody Asche, Noemi Rodriguez, Maci Bossa, and Makenzie Jacobs traveled to the Fairfield Marriot in Oklahoma City with about 600 other FFA members from across the state. They took part in a day and a half of leadership training from some of this country’s top motivational speakers. Made For Excellence is a conference designed specifically for freshmen and sophomores in high school. FFA members in attendance enjoyed group activities to build leadership qualities. They were also given ideas to take back to their home chapters to increase its involvement in the community.
Members also recently developed an idea to increase productivity of a farmer/rancher with a disability. Ag-Ed students along with Dustin Beams crafted a rolling device to assist in loading and unloading a popper from the bed of a pickup truck. This device was built to the height of the truck and the popper can easily slide from the bed onto the stand and back into the bed. The builders decided to enter their project in the state AgrAbility Contest which awards FFA Chapters for constucting ideas that could help a handicapped farmer/rancher. Okarche FFA was awarded 2nd place in Oklahoma and also received a cash prize for the chapter of $800.00 which will be present them at AgrAbility Day at the State Capital on March 26th.
